
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to households affected by recent flooding in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The exercise was flagged off on behalf of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, by the Head of Operations, Mrs. Aisueni Mmandu.
While addressing the beneficiaries, she commiserated with the people of Uyo over the hardship caused by the floods and explained that the relief distribution was aimed at bringing succour and cushioning the effects of the disaster on the affected population.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Christiana Bassey expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA for the timely intervention. She also acknowledged the Akwa Ibom State Government for its continuous support in disaster management.
The ceremony was well attended by key stakeholders, including Mr. Isaac Umanah from the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency (AKSEMA), Mrs. Ekaette Paul, a women leader in the community, councillors, supervisors of Uyo LGA, and other community representatives.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Okon Asuquo thanked the Federal Government, NEMA, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and AKSEMA for the assistance provided. He appealed for additional support to reach more affected communities still struggling with the impact of the floods.
