NEMA Delivers Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Shendam LGA of Plateau State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Jos Operations Office, on Monday, 6th October 2025, delivered relief materials to victims of the August 3rd, 2025 flooding that affected Shimankar and surrounding communities in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Delivering the items on behalf of the Agency, the Head of NEMA Jos Operations Office, Hajiya Bintu Wana, represented by Mr. Nurudeen Musa, Chief Search and Rescue Officer, said the intervention was aimed at providing succour to households affected by the flood.

She emphasized that the relief materials were not meant to compensate for the losses suffered, but rather to cushion the impact of the disaster on the victims. She also advised residents to desist from building and farming on flood-prone areas, stressing that prevention remains the best approach to disaster management.

Earlier in his palace, the Traditional Head of Shimankar, HRH Miskoom Maurice M. Danjuma, appreciated NEMA for the timely intervention and disclosed that a local committee had been set up to ensure fair and transparent distribution of the items strictly to genuine victims.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hon. John Moenwul Dafaan, Member Representing Mikang/Qua’an-Pan/Shendam Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government through NEMA for responding to the plight of his constituents. He commended the Agency’s leadership for its consistent support and assured the people of his continued commitment to advocating for their welfare and safety at the National Assembly.

The central distribution exercise, held at the palace of the Traditional Head of Shimankar, was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, traditional rulers, the Red Cross, and other stakeholders involved in disaster management and humanitarian response.
