
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibadan Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to persons affected by the recent rainstorm disaster in Osun East Senatorial District of Osun State, following the approval of the intervention by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar.
The distribution exercise was conducted on Friday, 10th July, 2026, at Olajide Event Centre, Abiri Ogudu Road, Ile-Ife, Osun State, in the presence of key stakeholders.
The intervention was aimed at cushioning the impact of the disaster by providing immediate relief to affected households and demonstrating the Federal Government’s continued commitment to supporting disaster victims across the country.
Flagging off the exercise, the Head of NEMA Ibadan Operations Office, Mr. Yinusa Deji G., conveyed the sympathy of the Director General to the beneficiaries, stating that the relief materials were approved by the Federal Government through NEMA to support households affected by the rainstorm. He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to assisting disaster-affected communities in their recovery.
Speaking at the event, the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who was represented by Alhaji Hon. Remi Arogundade, commended NEMA for the timely intervention, proper coordination and continued humanitarian support. He also encouraged the beneficiaries to use the relief items responsibly.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Onifegunwa of Ifegunwa, Ile-Ife, Oba Adedere Solomon, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful in easing the hardship faced by affected families.
The relief materials distributed comprised both food and non-food items, including rice, beans, garri, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil and tomato paste. Beneficiaries received the items in an orderly and transparent manner and expressed gratitude to NEMA, noting that the support would go a long way in alleviating their suffering.
The intervention underscores NEMA’s commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance to disaster-affected communities and supporting their recovery through coordinated relief interventions.
