
In response to the Fire incident that occurred in a Qur’anic School in Kaura-namoda, Zamfara State a few days ago, Head of Operations, Sokoto
Operational Office, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, on behalf of the Director General, presented relief materials to the state in support of the response efforts of the local and state government to the incident.
The relief materials presented are food items that include rice, maize, vegetable oil, and non-food items like detergents as well as medical supplies for the victims affected.
While delivering the items, Mr. Aliyu explained that the gesture is to show the concern of the Federal Government to the plight of the victims.
The items were jointly received by Executive Secretary, ZEMA, represented by the Director of Disaster Control, Hassan Usman Dauran, Emir of Kaura-Namoda, His Royal Highness, Alh. Sanusi Muhammad Asha and Chairman Kaura Namoda Local Government Council, represented by the DPM, Namadi Mainassara, as well as Commissioner, Zamfara state Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, represented by the Acting Perm. Sec. Muhammed Bashir Maradun.
Earlier, the Head of Operations in the company of stakeholders, including NEMA, ZEMA, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Local Government officials, were at the palace of the Emir of Kaura-Namoda to greet him and inform him about the Federal Government relief support. Thereafter, they proceeded to the hospital to see the victims who are currently receiving treatment at the Khadijah Women and Children Welfare Clinic in Kaura Namoda town.
The team also visited the ,scene of the incident to commiserate with the Qur’anic school for the loss of some of their students and the incident in general.
The State Government, in collaboration with Kaura Namoda Local Government Council, has already set an Emergency Response committee to look into the fire outbreak and also ensure equitable and transparent distribution of the relief items. Emir of Kaura-namoda promised to monitor the distribution of the food items by the committee that includes representatives of the school, community, local government council, security operatives, and religious organisations.
