NEMA Drives Awareness on Tanker Fire Prevention in Edo State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Benin Operations Office conducted a sensitization programme in Edo State to raise awareness about tanker fire incidents and their prevention. The initiative brought together key stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security and Safety (representing the Governor), NURTW, NSCDC, FRSC, NOA, Red Cross, federal and state fire services, Edo SEMA, CSOs, and NEMA/NYSC EMVs.

The programme emphasized collaboration across sectors, public safety consciousness, and proactive measures to reduce tanker-related fires. In his remarks, the Head of NEMA’s Benin Office, Mr. Kenoma Ojuederie, called for strict compliance with safety protocols by tanker operators and advocated ongoing public education.

Expert presentations by the Federal Fire Service, FRSC, and the Ministry of Public Security and Safety offered valuable insights into fire safety practices, emergency response, and preventive measures. A major highlight was a hands‑on community sensitization in Ologbo, along the Benin–Sapele expressway, focusing on best practices and fire safety awareness for tanker drivers and residents.

The initiative reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to disaster risk reduction through stakeholder collaboration, capacity building, and grassroots enlightenment.
