NEMA North West Zonal Office (NWZO) conducted a two-day program titled “Sensitization and Public Awareness on Proper Waste Management and Flood Preparedness” in Kaduna. The event, held at the Ministry for Local Governments Affairs, aimed to strategize on disaster management and flood mitigation.

Chaired by Acting Zonal Director Dr. Ishaya Isah Chonoko and Zonal Coordinator Abbani Imam Garki, the session included key stakeholders discussing the preparedness for the annual floods predicted by NIMET. Topics covered included the current state of the River Kaduna, drainage issues, and community engagement strategies.

Presentations were made on the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction, flood outlook, and sustainable waste management. The event concluded with a proposal for a bill to reinstate monthly sanitation to prevent urban flooding and an immediate call for a flood awareness campaign.
