A two-day workshop co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The workshop is expected to result in the creation of a National Disaster Database and Risk Information Management for Long-Term Risk-Informed Development.
The event took place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Barcelona Hotel Abuja.
Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director General of NEMA, Director General FCT SEMA Abbas Idris, Reshmi Theckethil Project Manager of UNDP Sahel Resilience Project, Representative of ECOWAS, Directors,Zonal coordinators,heads of operations and Senior the Staff of the Agency, Representatives of State Emergency Management Agencies, and other Disaster Management Stakeholders attended the workshop.
In his Remarks, the Director General NEMA in his remarks outlined the purpose of the Sahel Resilience Project which covers seven countries in west Africa which include Nigeria,Burkina Faso,Chad,Mali,Mauritania,Niger and Senegal.
This project is a multi partnership scheme implemented by UNDP in Collaboration with African Union Commission, ECOWAS,UN Women, Lake Chad Basin Commission,other regional organisations funded by the swiss Government. The DG also spoke on the 2022 flood response in relation to disaster risk management where he stressed the need for Collaboration and adequate collection of risk data for post disaster impacts and recovery planning and implementation in Nigeria and the Sahel region.
The workshop is expected to have technical sessions with presentation from experts and facilitators.
