The opening ceremony of the workshop on the update of hazard risk analysis for Nigeria was held on 20th May, 2024 at BAFRA hotel Kaduna. The event was organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with UNICEF.
Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of KADSEMA, commenced the proceedings with an insightful opening remark, underlining the workshop’s pivotal role in augmenting preparedness and response mechanisms for various hazards across Nigeria. He also detailed on the commendable achievements KADSEMA has attained through collaborative efforts with stakeholders.
Following the Opening remarks, a welcome address was delivered by the Acting Zonal Director, Dr. Ishaya Isah Chonoko, representing the Director General of NEMA, Haj. Zubaidah Umar. Dr. Chonoko expressed gratitude to all participants for their presence and while conveying the Director General’s message, underscored the imperative of updating hazard risk analysis for bolstering effective disaster management in Nigeria.
The participants of the workshop represented key stakeholders from various sectors and geographic regions, reflecting a diverse range of expertise and perspectives. This inclusivity ensures a comprehensive and holistic approach to hazard risk analysis and disaster management.
The opening ceremony set a positive tone for the workshop, emphasizing collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective efforts towards building resilience to hazards in Nigeria. The workshop will hold from the 21-23 May 2024.
