INAUGURAL MEETING OF AKSEMA/ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON EMERGENCY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE.

Director General, NEMA , Zubaida Umar (Mrs) represented by the Ag. Zonal Director South South Zone, Mr. Ibrakumo Brandon Walson accompanied by staff of NEMA Uyo Operations Office participated in the inaugural meeting of the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency (AK-SEMA) which held today at the Old Exco Chambers, Governor’s Office.

The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi who also doubles as the chairperson of AK-SEMA.

In an address on behalf of the DG NEMA, Mr. Ibrakumo Brandon Walson stressed the need for a proactive approach to disaster management, which includes the formation of local emergency management committees and the promotion of community-based response strategies which will help in strengthening Akwa Ibom State’s resilience against both natural and man-made disasters.

The meeting was closely followed by a workshop on Emergency and Disaster Management in Akwa Ibom State at the Akpan Isemin Hall, Government House. The workshop was geared towards NIMET rainfall prediction for 2024 and how it affects the state. In a paper presentation, the Zonal Director South South Zone Mr. Ibrakumo Brandon Walson spoke on Emergency Preparedness and Response as well as Emergency Coordination.

Critical stakeholders in disaster management, security agencies, local government chairmen as well as traditional rulers across the state were in attendance.
