






The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched its 2025 Flood Preparedness and Response Campaign in Ekiti State, beginning with a courtesy visit to the state government. Received by Alhaji Ademola Bello, the NEMA team led by Mr. Fred Anusim emphasized the campaign’s goals of building awareness and enhancing community-level disaster resilience.
At the stakeholders’ meeting held at Lady Jibowu Hall, Mr. Anusim, representing NEMA DG Mrs. Zubaida Umar, called for intensified grassroots sensitization. Deputy Governor Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye praised NEMA’s prompt initiative and directed the formation of Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) in collaboration with traditional rulers.
Dr. Evans Ugoh presented the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Flood Outlook, stressing the need for functional LEMCs and disaster education in schools.
Key stakeholders in attendance included security agencies, health and environment ministries, traditional rulers, media, and emergency services.
The campaign also featured a community outreach in Ikere-Ekiti, where residents were educated on flood prevention. The event included fire safety and first aid demonstrations, and a first aid box was donated to support local emergency efforts.
