Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Engr Mustapha Maihaja today received members of the newly formed Society of Professional Disaster Risk Managers of Nigeria (SOPDRIMN), led by the President Nwiyor Dumle Jerry who were at the headquarters of the agency in Abuja to formally notify of its existence and avail supports towards disaster risk management in Nigeria.
The DG NEMA appreciated their interest to promote disaster risk reduction in Nigeria, noting that disaster management as an emerging profession could only gain prominence with the supports of professionals with related roles. The DG was joined in receiving the SOPDRIMN members by the Directors of the Agency.
Earlier, the SOPDRIMN President Nwiyor Dumle Jerry said the society was formed by the members who had undertaken post-graduate programmes in Disaster Risk Reduction at the NEMA supported Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction and Development Studies, University of Port Harcourt.
