- NEMA South West Zone on 16th January,2023 carried out an on the Spot assessment of Fire Disaster that occured at Araromi Spare part Market, Agodi Gate, Ibadan .
- The Team was led by the Assist. Zonal Coordinator in collaboration with SEMA and Representatives of the Market Association.
- The Fire incident which occurred on 14th January at around 2am was as a result of uncontrolled Refuse Burning as the sorroundings of the shops were shanties as observed.
- A total of 20 houses, 45 Shops, 9 electric poles, 1 transformer and Community Bore hole were completely razed down by fire before the arrival of Federal and State Fire service affecting about 270 people.
- While Commiserating with the victims, the Asst Zonal Coordinator adviced on the clearing of the shanties and avoidance of burning of refuse without necessary caution. He implored the market Leaders on the need to embrace Disaster Risk Reduction to avoid such occurrences in Future.
- The Victims appealed for assistance from the Federal Government urgently to help them return back to their Normal activities in earnest.
