NEMA Assesses Banditry Situation in Kebbi State


Several communities in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State recently suffered attacks by the notorious terrorist group known as “Lakurawa.”

In response, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigerian Police Force (NPF), local government officials, and community leaders, conducted a joint visit to assess the situation of those affected. The team confirmed that the armed group, also engaged in cattle rustling, attacked multiple villages including Morai, Garu, Unguwar Mai-Binnaro, Unguwar Kurfayawa, Unguwar Mai-Rakumi, Tungar-Taura, Unguwar Ladan, and Maituru.

The attack resulted in the loss of lives and injuries of varying severity among residents. Many were temporarily displaced but have begun returning to their homes following the withdrawal of the assailants.

The NEMA delegation was led by Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, Head of Accounts Unit, while the SEMA team was headed by Deputy Director Mohammad Attahiru Giro. Also part of the assessment team were the Chairman of Augie Local Government, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Augie, the Divisional Police Officer of Augie, the District Head of Yola, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Hassan, and other local leaders.
