MUBI ATTACK: 10496 PERSONS RECORDED IN FIVE CAMPS IN YOLA

… FG assures of IDPs continued supports
 

Following the recent attacks on Mubi town by Boko Haram insurgents, the National Emergency Management Agency and Adamawa SEMA have so far recorded about 10,496 internally displaced persons in five camps situated in Yola south and Fufore while more people are still pouring into the state capital. Five women were safely delivered in the two of the IDP camps.

The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi, has said, the agency which has been managing IDP camps and distributing relief materials in Adamawa and other states in the North East affected by the insurgency would continue to establish more camps and provide all the basic needs of the displaced persons. He said the agency has delivered adequate relief materials to all the established camps in the state and the new one would be provided with tents.

The Director General had dispatched an advanced team of NEMA officials to assess the situation and take necessary action to bring succor to the displaced people. The team is led by the Director Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Eugene Ezeh.

Receiving the NEMA team, the Adamawa State Governor,His Excellency Bala Jame Ngilari, told them that the government had sent vehicles for the evacuation of thousands of displaced persons who were scattered in various locations around Mubi and those that ran into Cameroon to the established camps in Yola. He said “ the tragedy has really stressed us, we require your intervention for both short and long term”. He noted that the majority of the displaced persons live with their relatives in the host communities, while appealing to them to come forward and register so that they too could benefit from whatever is provided.

The Hon. Minister of Women's affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, on behalf of the President sympathized and condoled with those that lost loved ones and property. She said Mr. President assigned her to assess the situation and assured them of his continuous support up to the time when they would be going back to their homes. She said the Federal Government has been doing everything possible to see the end of this insurgency.

The camps are in Dawarei, Girei, Malkwohi, Nyako Housing Estate, NYSC camp and COCIN Church. The relief items provided at all the camps include drugs, rice, clothes, mattresses, maize, buckets, mats, soap, towel, cooking oil and sanitary items.

  1. I look forward to seeing a needs assessment for these people. Remember, we have a cold season ahead of us in December, we might hit 8 degrees this year in December in most of these areas, hope that is in the picture.
