NEMA meets HYPPADEC, Strategize on Emergency Response in Kaduna

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) paid a courtesy call to NEMA Operations Office, Kaduna as part of continuous effort to strengthening the agency’s collaboration, particularly in emergency response situations.

The Director, NEMA Northwest Zone, *Mal. Sani Lokoja* and the Head of NEMA Operations Office, Kaduna, Mal. *Suleiman Muhammad* received HYPPADEC’s State Coordinator, Abdulhalim Yazid who led a team of delegated staff for the familiarization visit to discuss areas of mutual cooperation.

The meeting highlighted key discussion on Emergency Response, collaboration between both organizations emphasized, the need for effective synergy during emergency responses
The visiting HYPPADEC staff requested NEMA’s presence for a condolence visit to the community in the Gurara Dam Area, where 15 people died in a boat mishap recently.

Furthermore, they also requested NEMA’s participation in inspecting the commission’s ongoing projects in the community.
HYPPADEC further highlighted the importance of providing life support jackets to riverine communities to reduce vulnerability to boat mishaps providing insights on how the commission has provided 30 boats to communities in riverine areas of Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Kaduna states.
