NEMA/NYSC CDS GROUP COMDUCT SENSITIZATION ON FIRE DISASTER

The NEMA/NYSC/EMVs CDs group in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, implemented a proactive Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategy by conducting a sensitization visit to Government Day Secondary School Tunga and Government Girls Secondary School Bosso, on the 14th February 2024.

This initiative, aligned with their objectives, aimed to raise awareness about fire prevention and enhance the community’s response capacity by establishing early warning systems and effective response mechanisms for fire incidents.

During the sessions, speakers emphasized the importance of avoiding bush burning and practicing caution when using fire. They also advised against storing flammable items in households due to the potential dangers of uncontrolled fires. Students also received education on electrical fire hazards and were encouraged to avoid illegal or faulty electrical connections. In case of a fire outbreak, they were urged to promptly raise an alarm.

NEMA MOO officials provided on-site supervision and essential support to the volunteers, ensuring the success of the initiative. This holistic approach aimed to equip the community with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to fire emergencies effectively.
