ASSESSMENT OF RAINSTORM DISASTER AT IRESA APA COMMUNITY IN SURULERE LGA OF OYO STATE

Sequel to a distress call from Oyo State Emergency Management Agency ( OYSEMA) in respect to Rainstorm disaster that wreak havoc to six (6) communes of IRASEPA in Surulere LGA.on Monday 15 April,2024, officials of NEMA South West in collaboration with OYYSEMA and representative of Local Government carried out an assessment in the affected area on Tuesday 16th April 2024. The purpose was to ascertain the extent of damage and identify the needs for the victims of the unfortunate incidence. On arrival,the team was warmly received by the Local Government Chairman Hon. Isaiah Adegbite at his office Surulere LGA. The Chairman commended team for the quick response and gave details account of what happened. The AZC NEMA SW Olanrewaju Kazeem sympathized with the chairman and entire community about the unfortunate incidence and prayed against such occurrence.The assessment team was conducted round the affected communities and it was observed the disaster has created a lot of impact and havoc, properties and valuables things worth millions of Naira were destroyed, people were displaced, means of livelihood destroyed such as shops, schools etc. Estimated number of person’s affected is about 1,300.
