NEMA, in a joint assessment exercise carried out in conjunction with SEMA, Sokoto State, Community members and security operatives visited Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State to ascertain the magnitude of damage caused by flood.
The incident which occurred between 20th and 21st of September, 2024 was caused by heavy downpour that fell for two days.
Seven (7) communities were affected in the LGA. They include, Sabon-gari, Kawara, Farkaji, Mun-wadata, Mallamawa, Gabas and Magazawa.
Over one thousand persons were affected in the flood incident that collapsed many houses, pulled down fences, submerged large hectares of farmlands of rice, maize, millet, beans, guinea-corn, and sugarcane. Households utensils and appliances were also affected by the flood.
Major roads linking the communities are submerged, this by implication has also affected economic activity in the area. Some of the affected communities were not accessible as the time of assessment.
