NEMA CARRY OUT ON-THE-SPOT ASSESSMENT OF WINDSTORM DISASTER IN AKWANGA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office Jos on Tuesday 16th April 2024 carried out an -the-spot assessment of the wind storm disaster that occured in some communities in Akwanga Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State.

On the 31st of March 2024, the House of Assembly Member representing Akwanga North Constituency Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa called and alerted the agency of wind storm disaster that ravage his Constituency on the 31st of March 2024 and requested for relief assistance.

The assessment excircise revealed that about 275 houses were partially damaged while 87 houses were completely damaged in 6 communities in the Local Government.

Earlier in his residence, Hon.Larry Ven-Bawa appreciated NEMA for the Swift response to carried out the assessment after which he took the assessment team to the palace of Chun Mada, the Paramount ruler of Akwanga, Hon. Samson Gamu yare

The head of the assessment team who doubled as the Zonal Information and Public Relations Officer Mr. Audu Yohana informed the Paramount ruler that the agency was in his palace to commiserate with him and the people of Akwanga over the wind storm disaster that occured on the 31st of March 2024 in some communities in the Local Government and to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the incidence. In his remarks, Chun Mada appreciated NEMA and noted that it was the second time NEMA came to assist the people of Akwanga since he became the Paramount ruler in Akwanga Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State. He used the platform to sensitise the affected communities to imbibe the culture of tree plating and avoid deforestation.

Some of the affected communities include: Ningo sambe Dancha, Kobur, Ninga, Adde and Nunku.
