On July 18, 2024, NEMA’s Ekiti Operations Office, along with Ekiti SEMA, the Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, and other stakeholders, conducted a sensitization and public awareness campaign on proper waste management and flood preparedness in Ado-Ekiti.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Director General of NEMA, represented by Dr. Kofoworola Soleye, emphasized the link between improper waste disposal and flood disasters. The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, represented by Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, praised NEMA’s efforts and mentioned the state’s drainage improvements.
Sanitarian Ariyo Emmanuel discussed the importance of waste reduction and recycling, while Dr. Olumide Obe highlighted the health risks of improper waste disposal. Mrs. Olawumi Famiyiwa stressed the need for increased rural sensitization.
The campaign included a road show, market visits, and flyer distribution to educate the public on these issues.
