DG NEMA Zubaida Umar Reaffirms NEMA’s Commitment to Anticipatory Flood Action

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to proactive flood preparedness. Her goodwill message was delivered by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Alhaji Abdullahi Usur, at a high-level workshop on the Anticipatory Action Framework for Flood in Nigeria, held on April 16, 2025, at the JIB Hall, Office of the National Security Adviser.The event was attended by top dignitaries including Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty AlleviationMrs. Umar emphasized the urgency of early action in the face of increasing flood threats, urging stakeholders to prioritize community engagement, early warning systems, and inclusive planning. She described the framework—an initiative of UNOCHA—as vital to shifting from reactive to anticipatory disaster response.The workshop marks a crucial step toward building a resilient and better-prepared Nigeria through collaboration and early intervention.
