NEMA North West Zonal Office staff led by Abbas Hamisu of the Relief and Rehabilitation Unit with support from KADSEMA, Red Cross and Federal Fire Services conducted Assessment of fire disaster at Central Panteka Market and some Housing Units owned by the Kaduna state Government located at Rigasa, Igabi Local Government, Kaduna State.
The joint assessment exercise of the incidences reveal that several stalls/shops were destroyed in the two sections of the panteka market according to the market officials who said detailed list of victims and losses is still being compiled.
Both incidences occurred in the early hours of 17.01.2024 and the causes are yet to be ascertained but according to the market officials, it may be as a result of electrical surge or a generator exhaust heat contact with saw dust.
About 50 semi detached Bungalows were burnt in the Rigasa housing estate as observed by the joint team. The houses are yet to be occupied at this point. The source of the fire yet to be ascertained but likely as a result of a fire from bush burning which encroached to the estate.
