…Seeks Staff, stakeholders cooperation
The new appointed Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja has resumed office (April 21, 2017) with a promise to reposition the Agency for effective disaster management in the country.
Addressing the management staff, he thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity, saying, “it is a call to service and work has commence in earnest”.
He said, “ I am taking over at a time the country is faced with major emergency involving Internally Displaced Persons IDPs, Meningitis ravaging various states and other challenges requiring urgent response from NEMA and concerted efforts with various agencies”.
He said within the next few days “ we shall role out an agenda for the activities of NEMA under my management” adding that the he will also ensure the Agency is positioned for effective disaster management especially in areas of prevention leveraging on globally accepted frameworks.
He therefore solicited cooperation of the staff and stakeholders to increase the momentum of disaster management in the country as well as set the pace for others.
Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja was born in Nguru, Yobe state on 13th April 1963. A graduate of Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; he is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
The new Director General has worked in public and private organizations that includes National Electric Power Authority NEPA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afri Project Consortium and Buba Brothers Nigeria Limited.
