NEMA Responds to Cooking Gas Explosion at Ojokoro and Market Fire at Abule Egba Lagos State

A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition at LASUTH after a cooking gas explosion at her parents’ residence in Ojokoro, Lagos. Three adults, including her grandparents and uncle, are also undergoing burn care. The grandmother, in severe pain, explained to NEMA that an attempt to control a flaming oil while frying meat led to the gas explosion. The girl was rescued by community members. The incident left 11 families homeless, as the entire 14-room building collapsed. The landlord, Pa Femi Odubanwo Solomon, narrowly escaped and is currently staying in a church. In a separate incident, a market fire at Abule Egba affected numerous shops and vehicles, but no injuries were reported. The Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA and his medical team are providing assistance to the victims.
