NEMA RESPONDS TO A 2 STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS

NEMA Lagos Territorial Office LTO team received a distress alert of a building collapse at 20 Amusu Street, Bale Bus Stop, Sari Iganmu, Orile ,Lagos State today 14 October, 2024.

On arrival at the scene of the incident, information gathered revealed that the distressed building had been marked and residents told to evacuate the building by the Lagos State building control Agency (LABSCA). They refused and continue to occupy it even in the obviously distressed state.

The 2 storey building in the early hours of today showed signs of eminent collapse and occupants had to quickly vacate it before the eventual collapse. No casualty was recorded at the incident.

The Orile/Iganmu LCDA chairperson, Hon. Fumilayo Akande Mohammed visited the scene to assess the situation and commiserated with the affected persons and the community members. She urged them to report to the appropriate authority when they notice distressed buildings in their communities and immediately vacate the area when report has been made.

The scene was cordoned off while all stakeholders present deliberated on the best method to safely demolish another identified distressed building adjoining the already collapsed one. Evacuation of debris commenced immediately with the aid of LASBCA Heavy duty equipment
