Kaduna Flood Update: NEMA Rescues Two Persons, Provides Relief Support to Victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kaduna Operations Office, has rescued two elderly individuals who were trapped after a building collapse caused by the recent flooding in Kaduna State.

The rescue operations, carried out in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), the Red Cross, the Federal and State Fire Services, and other stakeholders, saved an elderly man at Bashama Road, Tudun Wada, and an elderly woman at Kigo Road, Kaduna North Local Government Area. The woman was subsequently reunited with her relatives at Kabala Costain.

The flooding, which began with intense rainfall last Thursday, has displaced hundreds of residents and destroyed numerous homes and properties. Communities most affected are those situated along River Kaduna and its tributaries, including Kigo Road, Bashama Road, Kinkinau, Malali, Ramat Road, Rafin Guza, and other areas.

Hundreds of displaced residents, particularly from Tudun Wada, are currently taking shelter at a temporary camp located at the Arc. Namadi Sambo Skills Acquisition Centre near the Children’s Hospital, Tudun Wada. The camp hosts mostly women, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, children, and persons with disabilities.

To alleviate their suffering, NEMA has provided emergency relief items such as mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets to the camp.
Speaking on the Agency’s response, the NEMA team led by the Head of Kaduna Operation Office, Malam Suleiman Mohammed reaffirmed its commitment to coordinating resources with relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of the disaster and ensure the delivery of humanitarian support to affected persons.

More updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
