
As part of its ongoing nationwide campaign to reduce the impact of anticipated flooding, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Enugu Operations Office, has taken its flood preparedness awareness to Enugu South Local Government Area—identified as a flood-prone region.This initiative aligns with the directive of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who has urged all NEMA offices nationwide to promote awareness on the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction and enhance community resilience to disasters.In collaboration with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Local Emergency Management Committee, NEMA Enugu conducted the sensitization program at Kenyatta Market, Enugu South, to reach a broader audience.Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, Head of NEMA Enugu Operations Office, expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Executive members of Kenyatta Market, and traders for their warm reception and enthusiasm for the program. In her remarks, she emphasized that the sensitization was aimed at educating the public on the implications of the 2025 climate outlook, the importance of early warning and early action, community involvement, and risk transfer mechanisms.She noted that the presentations on flood preparedness, fire prevention, and basic first aid were guided by recent findings and reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to working closely with Enugu SEMA and the Local Emergency Management Committee for effective disaster management.Activities during the sensitization included a road walk, informative presentations, distribution of flyers, and one-on-one engagements in local languages and dialects
