
The NEMA Operations Office in Port Harcourt conducted an on-the-spot assessment of a rain-induced flood disaster that affected several communities in Ahoada-West Local Government Area, Rivers State.This followed an SOS message received from Hon. Ukalakwu Deaka, highlighting a severe flood incident that impacted six communities: Odiokwu, Ubeta, Obarama, Akinnima, Mbiama, and Ula-Ubie.The flood occurred on April 1, 2025, and was officially reported on April 2, 2025. In response, Mr. Ebhodaghe Eric, Head of the Port Harcourt Operations Office, immediately deployed a team of assessors to evaluate the extent of the damage.The assessment revealed that the flooding was triggered by a heavy and sustained downpour. Many affected residents have been displaced and are currently seeking refuge in neighboring communities. The disaster also disrupted their means of livelihood.
