The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, has continued its assessment of communities affected by recent flood and rainstorm incidents in Zamfara State.
In continuation of the earlier exercise, the assessment team visited additional impacted areas across Zurmi, Kaura-Namoda, and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
Among the communities assessed were Birnin Tsaba, Dauran, and Kanwa in Zurmi LGA; Sarkin Baura and Dawa Kawa in Kaura-Namoda LGA; and Kofar Fada and Zango in Tsafe LGA. The team reported that while some of these locations were accessible, others remained difficult to reach due to prevailing insecurity in parts of the state.
According to the assessment report, the incident occurred following late-season rainfall accompanied by heavy storms and strong winds, which are typical at the end of the rainy season. The resulting floods caused significant damage to residential structures, farmlands, and household properties.
While some affected residents have managed to carry out temporary repairs on their homes, others have been displaced and are currently taking refuge with relatives and host communities.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders, including the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) and local authorities, to provide necessary support and ensure that affected persons receive timely humanitarian assistance.
