NEMA Lagos Territorial Office convened a meeting with over 30 Market Associations in Lagos Island West, including prominent ones like Balogun, Idumota, Oke Arin, Leventis, and Marina. The focus of the meeting was to address the recurring market fire disasters on the Island. Chief Alhaja Risikat Abeje, the Lagos West Iya Oja General, along with other sectional heads, discussed potential solutions. NEMA emphasized the importance of disaster risk reduction, highlighting the shift towards proactive prevention rather than reactive response. They urged traders to integrate risk reduction strategies into their daily activities. Although initially receptive, the associations requested NEMA to present the proposal to the President General, Chief Mrs Folasade Tinubu Ojo, for approval before implementing any decisions or interventions across all markets.
