The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office Jos on Wednesday 25th April 2024 carried out an -the-spot assessment of major Winston disaster that occured and ravaged some communities in 7 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State on the 2nd of April 2024.
The assessment team which was assembled by the North Central Zonal Coordinator mr Eugene Nyelong carried out the assessment excircise following a distressed call from the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA).
The assessment excircise revealed that ten thousand two hundred and nineteen (10,219) persons were affected while seven thousand and fourthy four (7,044) persons were displaced across the seven LGAs of the State.
Furthermore, two thousand one hundred and eighty tree (2,183) houses ware massively affected by the disaster while critical infrastructures of schools, electricity poles, hospitals/public centers and water sources destroyed
Also, over thirty five (35) persons were injured while attempting to salvage some of their propertise while some incured injuries as they
were trapped during the massive windstorm unfortunately one person lost his life in the wake of the disaster.
Similarly the North Central Zonal office on the 16th of April 2024 carried out an -the-spot assessment of another missive wind storm disaster that occured in 6 communities in Akwanga Local Government Areas of the State which took place on the 31st of March 2024.
The LGAs affected by the recent wind storm disaster included: Awe, Doma, Keana, Keffi,Kokona, Nasarawa -Eggon and Wanna.
