
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office convened a high-level stakeholders’ engagement meeting to assess the status of flood preparedness and response for 2025 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The meeting brought together representatives from government agencies, emergency services, and community-based organizations to enhance coordination ahead of the imminent flooding in the Territory.
Participants included the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, National Orientation Agency, FCT Fire Service, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, among others.
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Abuja Operations Office, Mr Zakari Abubakar, emphasized the need for stronger synergy among stakeholders and the urgency of proactive measures to mitigate flood impacts and protect lives and property across the FCT.
During the session, stakeholders updated the meeting on ongoing sensitization and response strategies. Discussions showcased significant progress in early warning systems, public awareness drives, and inter-agency collaboration, while also noting critical gaps that require urgent attention.
The meeting culminated into the inauguration of 2025 FCT Task Force on Flooding with members from critical stakeholders.
An “Any Other Business” segment provided an opportunity for additional contributions and recommendations from participants.
The engagement reinforced NEMA’s pivotal role in driving collaboration, resource mobilization, and shared responsibility among partners to reduce the impact of flooding on vulnerable communities.
