The National Emergency Management Agency officially handed over approved Federal Government Grains from strategic reserve to the Lagos State Government in a ceremony which was graced by the State and local government officials, DSS, ICPC, the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Red Cross and other dignitaries.
In her Speech the Director General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar who was represented by the NEMA Zonal Director, South West Mr Stephen Adewale stated that Federal government had earlier approved the release of 42,000 MT of assorted grains from the National strategic reserve to be distributed to the vulnerable persons in the country. Grains allocated and received by Lagos State are: Maize 15,600 bags of 50kg each; Garri 3,760 bags of 25kg each and Sorghum 16,000 bags of 50kg each, which will be distributed to the vulnerable persons across the 20 Local Government Areas in the State.
In his response, the State Governor represented by the Director, Veterinary Services, Mr Abdulrasheed Macauley, who received the items thanked the federal government for the gesture of providing palliatives to cushion the effects of the harsh economic situation on the vulnerable persons. He promised that the State would ensure that the items get to deserving beneficiaries who have been enumerated in the State. He concluded by thanking the Director General NEMA for her support to the State in the areas of Disaster Management and promised that the State would do its best to work more with the Agency to combat disasters in all ramifications.
