North-West Zonal Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted the distribution of relief materials to communities affected by flood and windstorm disasters in Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency, Kaduna State.
The relief distribution was led by Halima Daudu Suleiman, representing the Zonal Coordinator, Abbani Imam Garki. The items were symbolically presented to Hon. Aliyu Mustapha Abdullahi, the representative of Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency, who was represented by Abubakar Ahmed (L.A.).
The federal government-approved relief items distributed to approximately 800 households affected by the flood and windstorm in the Pambegua and Zuntu communities of Kubau Local Government Area. These communities experienced severe flooding following heavy rains and windstorms on June 24, 2024, which affected about 4,800 persons and resulted in four fatalities.
The relief materials consist of both food and non-food items, including rice, maize, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, powdered milk, Milo, clothing for men, women, and children, towels, mosquito nets, plastic buckets, diapers, detergent, zinc nails, and roofing sheets.
In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator, on behalf of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, expressed condolences to the affected communities and urged beneficiaries to utilize the federal government’s support to alleviate their hardships. He emphasized that the relief materials are intended to provide succor during these challenging times and are not a compensation for their losses.
Abubakar Ahmed, the representative of the Hon. Member, conveyed the heartfelt appreciation of the constituency and commended NEMA for its humanitarian efforts and timely response in assisting individuals affected by various disasters.
