On May 8, 2024, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) launched the distribution of assorted grains to vulnerable persons in Delta State. The event took place at the ADP warehouse in Ibuzo, where the delivered items, including maize and garri, were inspected.
The NEMA team, led by the Acting Zonal Director, South South, Mr. Walson Brandon, representing the Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, conducted a tour of the warehouse with the representative of the Governor. The assorted grains allocated to Delta State include 975 metric tons of maize (19,500 bags of 50kg) and 117.5 metric tons of garri (4,700 bags of 25kg).
On behalf of the Federal Government, the items were handed over to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, in the presence of Government officials, including representatives from ICPC, EFCC, DSS, media teams, community leaders, and committee members.
In his remarks, Governor Sheriff, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their support to the state. He assured the NEMA team of the state government’s commitment to ensuring that the prescribed guidelines for distribution are followed and these items will be distributed equally among the 25 Local Goverment area of Delta State.
The event was also attended by the Head of Operations, NEMA Edo Operations Office, Dahiru Yusuf, and the Director of Delta SEMA, Mr. Karo Ovemeso.
