NEMA ATTEND NiMet 2-DAY STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT FORUM IN LAGOS

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) participated in a two-day stakeholders’ engagement forum organized by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) with the theme “Early Warnings: Raising Awareness on Climate Risks and Promoting Early Action.”

At the forum, the Director General of the Agency- Mrs Zubaida Umar was ably respresented by the Zonal Director, South-West-. Mr Saheed Akiode, along with staff from the Lagos Operations Office. In her goodwill message, DG NEMA expressed deep her appreciation to NiMet’s critical role in delivering accurate weather forecasts, early warning information, and climate advisories that guide preparedness and response efforts nationwide.

The DG highlighted NiMet’s dedication and professionalism in raising awareness, safeguarding lives, property, and the environment. While describing Nimet as an invaluable partner in Nigeria’s Disaster Risk Reduction lnitiatives, she emphasized NiMet’s role as a key stakeholder in Disaster Management and further reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment towards strengthening collaboration, enhance early warning systems, disaster preparedness, and sustainable risk management practices in ensuring lives and livelihoods are protected amid of evolving climate and environmental challenges.

The forum featured key players in Meterological World and scholars from different works of life that delivered insightful presentations. The forum also featured panels of discussions cross- fertilising ideas and experiences on key tropical issues on meterology. This created an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas on best practices.
