In line with NEMA’s mandate to educate and inform the public on disaster prevention and control measures, the Ekiti Operations Office, NEMA in collaboration with critical stakeholders such as SEMA, NOA, NGOs, Market Women, FRSC, NSCDC, NESREA, Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and NYSC Vanguard, today 28th August, 2015 embarked on a Road Show Sensitization/Awareness Campaign aimed at preventing or reducing the negative impacts of Flood in Ekiti State and its environs in the event of flooding in 2015,
The event themed “The Management of Solid and Liquid Waste in the Context of Flood Mitigation” saw participants, led by the Head, Ekiti Operations Office, Mr. Akiode S. A. O, walking from Fajuyi Park to Oja-Oba (Main Market). The Head of Operations and other stakeholders present took turn to address the people on simple Flood Prevention/Mitigation measures. Speakers advised residents to stop dumping refuse in drainage channels, enforce environmental laws, ensure appropriate management of waste, among others, to prevent flood. This is a versatile tool in building capacities for flood disaster reduction and preparedness to ensure sustainable urban development.
