
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Enugu Operations Office (EOO) participated in a coordination meeting on Resilience Building Through Multi Stakeholders Engagement In Anticipatory Actions For Climate Induced Disaster (REBUMAA) with focus on riverine flooding.
The meeting was organized by the Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) Enugu State chapter at the NRCS Enugu state office.
The REBUMAA project is in line with the proactive approach of NEMA which focuses on identifying risks, reducing vulnerability, enhancing resilience to disaster, strengthening community-based early warning systems, implementing forecast-based financing, etc.
The Key parameters are comprehensive and multi-stakeholder governance, understanding and addressing disaster risks, community preparedness, sustainable agricultural practices, data-driven analysis, and fostering coordination among local and national actors.
During the meeting, the Head NEMA Enugu Operation Office Mrs Ngozi Echeazu was represented by Mr. Matthew Ezeji CICTO appreciated the NRCS for organizing the meeting and further highlighted the numerous efforts made by NEMA Enugu Operations Office as charged by the working NEMA Director General Mrs Zubaida Umar.
Other stakeholders equally spoke on their level of preparedness and actions taken to mitigate flooding in the state.
Stakeholders in attendance include NEMA, SEMA, NRCS, IFRC, NSCDC, Ministry of Education, Consultants from the Ministry of Ibadan and the Media.
