The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), has initiated a sensitization campaign to educate tanker drivers on preventing and responding to fire outbreaks.
The campaign, launched at the Tanker Drivers’ Park in Nassarawa-Eggon LGA, involved stakeholders including the state fire service, FRSC, and drivers’ unions. NEMA’s North-Central Head of Operations, Babatunde Razak-Adebiyi, stressed the need for coordinated efforts to tackle rising tanker fire incidents caused by accidents, mechanical faults, and human error.
NASEMA’s DG, Barr. Ben Akwash, described the initiative as proactive and pledged to replicate it across all 13 LGAs in the state. Fire Service Controller Nwachuku Eno-Kelechi emphasized personal safety and proper use of ABC extinguishers, while FRSC official Domain Ezeanya urged regular vehicle maintenance and safe driving.
The event featured a live fire safety demonstration for practical training.
