The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has convened a preparatory meeting on the development of a National Policy on Relief and Rehabilitation Intervention (NPRRI).
The meeting brought together members of NEMA’s management and key development and humanitarian partners.
The meeting was declared open by the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was represented by her Special Assistant, Hajia Rakiya Bello Umar. In her remarks, she welcomed participants and expressed appreciation for their presence, underscoring the importance of the proposed policy and urging active engagement to ensure meaningful outcomes.
The formulation of the policy was described as timely, as it was noted that despite NEMA’s leadership role in disaster management for over two decades, the Agency currently operates without a dedicated national policy specifically guiding relief and rehabilitation interventions.
Technical partners present at the meeting included the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, and Oxfam.
