NEMA HANDS OVER FOOD ITEMS TO ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNMENT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO VULNERABLE PEOPLE

Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar has handed over assorted food commodities approved by the Federal Government for Vulnerable Nigerians in Zamfara State.

The DG who was represented by the Director, North-West Zone of the agency, Isah Ishaya Chonoko said the gesture was in fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to reduce the impact of the current economic down-turn being experienced in the country. This the DG said is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President who approved the release of 42,000MT of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve under the custody of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for distribution to vulnerable people in Nigeria. The assorted food commodities include Maize, Millet, Sorghum, and Garri.

The DG disclosed that based on the allocation table, Zamfara State has been allocated:

i. 308 MT of maize (6,160 bags of 50kg)

ii. 602 MT of sorghum (12,040 bags of 50kg)

iii. 126 MT of millet (2,520 bags of 50kg)

The above food items will be shared equally to all the LGAs in the State she said.

On the 2024 predicted flood, Zubaida Umar said though this year Zamfara State is not among the highly probable flood risk areas, it is among the moderate flood risk areas. She mentioned areas in the State that will experience flood to be Bungudu, Gummi, Gusau, Bakura, Maradun, Talata Mafara, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.

Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal who received the commodities on behalf of the State, appreciated the kind gesture of the president and assured the items will be distributed according to the instructions of Mr. President to reach the beneficiaries.
