NEMA CONDUCTS FLOOD ASSESSMENT IN SHANGA LGA OF KEBBI STATE

Over ten (10) communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State were affected by the heavy rainfall that fell between 17th – 22nd September, 2024. The rain which was continuous flooded these communities.

The communities affected include, Kunda, Dala-maidawa, Dala-tudu, Dala-mairuwa, Ishe-mairuwa, Kwarkusa, Kurmudi, Tugar-maigani, Tukur-cika, Uguwar-gwada, Uguwar-wakili and Gundu.

The joint assessment team comprises officials of NEMA, SEMA, Kebbi State, Community members, Local Government Council officials, Security operatives and the media

Thousands of people who were affected by the flood incidents are fishermen and farmers. The flood collapsed houses, submerged communities and hectares of farmlands. Crops like rice, maize, millet, beans, guinea-corn were seriously affected.

The assessment team also reported cases of displacement of hundreds of persons who are currently taking refuge at Tudun-faila primary school.
