NEMA CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD DISASTER IN OTURKPO LGA, BENUE STATE

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North Central Zonal Office Jos, in collaboration with Benue state Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA) on Tuesday 24th September 2024 carried out assessment of floods that started on and off from 29 Of August 2024 and the recent one of 22nd September 2024 and affected some communities in Ourkpo Local Government Area (LGA) of the State. The affected communities include: Adim, Ejor Atrukpo, Egbla, Ojantelle Ojyoma, Otobi Akpa among others. The assessment revealed that the flood disaster washed away several farmlands and distroyed several houses.

The aim of the assessment was to see the extent of destruction and the possibility of Federal government assistance.

The assessment took place alongside the leaders of the varrius communities, the Red Cross, Civil Defense, SEMA and honourable member representing Oturkpo/Apa constituency, hon. Amgbo Kennedy.
