As part of ongoing efforts to monitor the rising water levels at River Benue Bakin Kogi in Yola North Local Government Area, officials from the NEMA Yola Operations Office and ADSEMA conducted a site inspection. The team was led by Mr. Ladan Ayuba and Dr. Celine La’ore, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA.
During the visit, the team engaged with the Marine Police to gather firsthand information about the situation. According to the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), the water level at Bakin Kogi currently stands at 8.7 meters. This measurement places the river at the highest warning alert level, signalling a significant risk of flooding.
The elevated water level presents a serious concern, as it indicates a potential for river overflow and flooding in surrounding areas of the river Banks. Local Authorities and Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to stay alert and cooperate with emergency services. NEMA is continuously monitoring the situation for further necessary action.
