NEMA South-South in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross led by Mr. Godwin Izuma, Head, Disaster Management of the Nigerian Red Cross, Market Union leader Hon. Chisom Nwabuchi and the host Community Development Committee of the Market conducted an assessment on the fire outbreak. The incident which occurred in the early hours of 11:03:2023 and affected 29 lock-up shops and 500 petty traders.
The cause of the fire was said to be an explosion from an adulterated kerosene within the market premises.
