The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) today held a sensitization workshop on Promoting Ethical and Impactful Reporting for Media Practitioners in Lagos.
Director General NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed presented keynote address titled “Strengthening Disaster Reporting: Media as Catalysts for Resilience.”
In the his address, the DG NEMA said the workshop was aimed at strengthening partnership between NEMA and the media. He urged Media practitioners to be professional in reportage of disasters with sense of responsibilities and promote national resilience.
The Director Special Duties Dr Onimode Abdullahi Bandele also presented a paper on the evolution of NEMA, in which he gave historical background to the establishment of the Agency, structures, equipment holding, facilities, achievements and on-going efforts to position it to be more operationally efficient.
In samevein, the Director Disaster Risk Reduction Dr Daniel Obot and Special Assistant to the DG Mr Idris Abubakar Mohammed were among the panel of discussants that critically analysed contemporary issues on media reportage of disasters and proffer the way forward. Other discussants included the Head of Lagos Territorial Office Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Editor Daily Trust Mr Hamza Idris, Publisher Eagle on Line Mr Dotun Oladipo and other contributors.
