Head, NEMA Sokoto Operations Office embarks on Working Courtesy visits

Following his recent resumption, the new Head Nema Sokoto Operations Office, Mallam Suleiman Muhammad embarked on a working courtesy visits to respective major stakeholders in Disaster Management based in the ancient “City of Caliphate”.

The new officer in charge who until his recent posting deputized at the #NEMA North Central Zonal Office in Jos, Plateau state led other delegated officials of the agency on visits to the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and the Road Safety, Civil Defense Corps in Sokoto.

Mallam Sulaiman stated that the visits is in line with the existing tradition of the agency as an entity saddled with the responsibilities in managing disaster; to reaffirmed its commitment for effective and efficient response to emergency.

The Director DSS Sokoto state command, Tijjani Kaffa lamented the challenges for rapid response and the lackluster intervention of stakeholders during emergency response in the state, giving reference to the recent Sokoto market fire outbreak.

He promised to meet with authorities of the state government to as a matter of fact adhere to organize a meeting among stakeholders to plan an emergency response blue print during disaster in order to save lives and properties.

Also the FRSC Sector Commandant, Sokoto, Muhammad Sani Hamza solicited the NEMA’s support for training of its officials most especially getting acquaintance to car extrication techniques for accident rescue operations.

On his part, the officer commanding 1 Brigade NA Sokoto, Brigadier O.O Soloye lamented the incessant fire outbreaks and flooding in the state, he said disaster if not properly managed will also led to another one.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto commended the agency’s prompt response to dis

aster giving reference to relief materials donated to the police aftermath of fire outbreak in one of the barracks in the state.

He also stated that NEMA has been included as a major player in the proposed Police Joint Task Forum in Sokoto state.
