The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Kano Territorial Office, in collaboration with the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, conducted a flood simulation exercise and debriefing meeting involving relevant stakeholders and communities at risk. This initiative aimed to address the threats posed by Tiga Dam to the Kano and Jigawa States.
The objectives of the exercise were to assess the readiness and response capabilities of emergency management agencies and enhance community awareness and preparedness for potential flood events. Also, foster collaboration among stakeholders to improve coordinated response efforts.
The exercise highlighted the importance of proactive measures and collaboration in mitigating flood risks. Continued efforts are necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of communities in the face of potential flooding from Tiga Dam.
