FLOOD ASSESSMENT IN ZAMFARA STATE

Head of Operations, NEMA, Sokoto Operations Office, Mr. Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi led a joint assessment team to assess the magnitude of flood impacts that occurred in Zamfara State recently.

The assessment exercise was conducted by a team of NEMA officers, Staff of Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency and Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. It also included community members who availed themselves to guide the team and supplied useful information concerning the flood.

Eyewitnesses said the flood was as a result of a heavy downpour that occured last week Tuesday. The incident affected about 10 Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. It submerged houses, fell down walls and collapsed some residential structures, leaving the victims displaced.

The LGAs affected include Gadar baga in Gusau, Zurmi, Kaura-Namoda,Birnin-magaji, Shinkafi, Bukuyum, Gummi, Anka and Maru. About 10,000 households are displaced with some of them currently taking shelter with relatives and friends.
