The Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar has inaugurated Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to coordinate timely deployment of resources for search and rescue following increasing incidents of flood in parts of the country.
In addition to the EOC, the DG NEMA has also activated the Situation Room at NEMA headquarters in Abuja for flood data collection, processing and dissemination of authentic information from incidents sites.
The DG NEMA who was represented by the Director Planning Research and Forecasting Dr Onimode Abdullahi Bandele said the Heads of NEMA zonal, territorial and operation offices have also been directed to ensure prompt response to flood incidents within their areas of responsibilities.
She said the EOC has been inaugurated to coordinate deployment of necessary resources required to support search and rescue, immediate recovery of affected persons.
She urged members of the coordination center to give their best by ensuring efficient resource utilization and the situation room to properly verify data obtained from the field to guide credible decision.
Following the inauguration, the EOC led by Assistant Director Search and Rescue Lydia Madu Wagami has commenced operations in line with the prescribed terms of reference.
